Communication: authentic, unique, creative and purposeful
***The i Communicate tool is in the works! Stay tuned!***
Communication comes in many forms. Every person should be given the opportunity to be understood, have a voice and make decisions. Authentic communication is a basic civil right, a God-given component of equality. Profound autism and similar challenges are linked to distracting and confusing behaviors. Sometimes that includes a tendency toward aggression. Without understanding i Am More, behaviors are often viewed as infantile or noncompliant, which can compound frustration. Those living with autism and similar challenges also find themselves isolated and alone, unable to say i Belong. Hidden Nation wants to help you to perceive disability differently. We view most “behaviors” as nonverbal communication, especially for those living with whole body dyspraxia, a body that is often in opposition to the will of the brain. We encourage you to be constantly watching and seeking each individual's form of communication. Through presuming competence and within the support of a community we strive to see that systematic training models and best practices are accepted and given a platform so that all persons with disability can be known. We do not assume what a person cannot understand or cannot process. We assume that he/she is more and is smart. We seek communication and relationship through dignity and respect.
The Hidden Nation Foundation strongly recommends that any form of communication should follow a deep understanding of i Am More (presumed competence) and with the support of a community (i Belong).
