We all need a village
***The i Belong tool is in the works and coming soon! Stay tuned!***
"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth."
African proverb
We believe all, especially those affected by Autism and other forms of neurological differences, should experience an accepting community offering a mutual exchange. It is healing. Belonging builds the confidence needed to become known, pursue dreams and uncover passions. Through our very community, Special Nation, which started just four years ago, a school has been established, a group home has been developed, authors have written books, advocates have discovered their voices and poets have released their words. A healthy community has the power to bring the very best out of each of us!
Hidden Nation urges you to fight for and become committed to a community that presumes competence. We recognize that it is not an easy task, especially after a hard day or during a difficult stage. Some of you are weary, broken, and maybe even angry. We don't claim to have the magic formula or perfect community, but many consider ours a place of acceptance and support: their "village." For those looking to start their own community and need a little help, want to provide you with the tools needed. In the works and slated for this year is an interactive i Belong manual. Another project in the works is a devotional book by our very own inspirational Special Nation Spiritual Director, Amy Groshell. There are many options and avenues in starting a community. We just urge you to join or start one! It makes all the difference.
Our goal is to see those living with Autism and similar challenges break out of isolation and into the light of relationships and belonging. We hope that after seeing autism and similar challenges through the lens of presumed competence and after starting a healthy community you will begin to explore the i Communicate Pillar.
